Government of Canada allowing more international youth to work and travel in Canada
International Experience Canada (IEC) is a program that lets young people from Canada and other countries work and travel in each other's countries. This means that nearly 90,000 people, including young Francophones, will be able to work and travel in Canada. This will help employers fill job openings, such as seasonal jobs in Canada's tourism industry.
The Canadian government is helping employers, like those in the tourism industry, find the workers they need by letting more international youth work and travel in Canada.
Canada has a long history of helping young people from all over the world travel and work abroad. IEC gives young people the chance to learn about new cultures, languages, and societies while also building up their life skills and improving their chances of getting a job in the future.
Key Highlights
Applicants will be able to apply as of January 9, 2023.
Through the IEC Program, Canada has agreements with 36 countries and foreign territories that let young people from those countries work and travel in Canada for up to 2 years. Depending on the country, the ages range from 18 to 35.
There are three different ways to take part in the program:
Working Holiday participants receive an open work permit for Canada that allows them to work anywhere in the host country to support their travels.
International Co-op (Internship) participants receive an employer-specific work permit that allows students to gain targeted experience in their field of study.
Young Professionals participants receive an employer-specific work permit to gain targeted, professional work experience that is within their field of study or career path.
